Step into the enchanting world of Doris Arnold, the mesmerizing pole dancer from Paris who has taken the stage by storm with her spellbinding performances and distinctive flair. In this lively interview, Doris unveils her journey, the hurdles she’s jumped, and the fiery passion that fuels her mission to empower others through the art of pole dancing.
Q: What sparked your initial interest in pole dancing, and how did you get started?
Doris: My adventure began as a stripper with a love for disco-tech dancing. I adored performing exotic dances but didn’t know how to pursue it as a sport. I found YouTube videos from Australia, where pole dancing was huge. France had no pole culture in 2008, but I was hooked on the idea of pole dancing beyond strip clubs. I learned tricks online, got the chance to teach, and eventually opened my pole studio, traveling the world.
Q: If you could go back and give yourself one piece of advice when you first started pole dancing, what would it be?
Doris: I wouldn’t change a thing. Sure, I made business mistakes due to inexperience, but I learned a ton. My advice would be, "Keep Going, Bitch!"
Q: How would you describe your pole dance style in three words?
Doris: Sexy, hot, and slutty. Haha, just kidding—slow, detail-oriented, and connected. I aim to connect with myself, my audience, and especially my students.
Q: Do you have a signature move or trick that you love to perform?
Doris: Absolutely! My favorites include the hip hold, jade splits, twisted grip bat wing, bird of paradise, wrist sit, box split, and hella boy. I love them all!
Q: What’s the most unexpected thing someone might experience in your class?
Doris: My goofy energy might catch people off guard. While I project a bad, bad bitch image in videos, in real life, I’m all about goofing around and connecting with people.
Q: How do you keep your classes fun and engaging for everyone?
Doris: I infuse my classes with goofy energy, cool music, and jokes. Sharing cliché stories from my stripper days helps people feel safe and focus on having fun rather than seeking perfection. I genuinely want everyone to enjoy themselves.
Q: What’s the funniest or most memorable reaction you’ve received when you tell people you’re a pole dance instructor?
Doris: I present myself confidently, so I don’t give people much space to react. Nothing funny stands out because I own what I do.
Q: How do you use pole dance to help your students feel empowered and confident?
Doris: I teach my students to feel confident in their bodies, regardless of shape. I focus on the process, patience, and conditioning to help them realize their strength. Through choreography, I make all bodies look beautiful, emphasizing that being sexy is about attitude, not body shape. I want my students to feel free and enjoy the art of pole dancing.
Q: What’s the craziest challenge you’ve overcome in your pole dance journey?
Doris: Owning a studio without any business background was tough. I had to learn management, accounting, and dealing with employees on the go. It was a lot, but I’m glad I did it and proud of what I achieved.
Q: Can you share a heartwarming success story from one of your students
Doris: One student thanked me for helping her through depression and suicidal thoughts by creating a non-judgmental community at my studio. Another escaped an abusive relationship by gaining confidence and self-worth through pole dancing. And one more, a tax controller now becomes a sex shop owner after taking my classes he found his true calling. These stories make all the challenges worthwhile.
Q: What’s a dream pole dance routine you’d love to choreograph or perform?
Doris: I don’t have a specific dream routine. I create choreography based on the vibe and what works for me at the moment.
Q: Where do you see yourself and the world of pole dance in the next five years?
Doris: I want to live in the moment, continue performing, teaching, and training. I aim to improve my connection with myself and my audience. I’m learning more about wellness techniques and body awareness to better support my students. My goal is to become a better performer and teacher.
Q: Do you have a fun or quirky story from your pole dance experiences that you’d like to share?
Doris: The number one question I get is, "How does your bikini stay in place?" I tell people that if anything comes out, it’s God’s plan, not mine. It’s always funny to see how concerned people are about that.
